Listed pot dimensions are generally external unless the product description states otherwise. Ceramic walls are usually around 1cm thick, so the internal length and width may each be approximately 2cm smaller. For example, a 20cm × 15cm pot may measure around 18cm × 13cm inside at the opening. This is only an estimate: rims, shapes and tapering affect the usable space. Do not use this calculation for depth, as the base and feet also affect the measurements. Where internal measurements are provided, use those instead.

Choose for usable root space as well as appearance. Check the individual product details for drainage and outdoor suitability; an unglazed finish does not, by itself, establish frost resistance or how porous the pot is.
