Every bonsai needs regular soil checks and watering when needed. Beginner-friendly does not mean maintenance-free.

Find your perfect bonsai
Where will your bonsai live?

Choose the place it will spend most of its time.

A bright indoor position must stay frost-free and away from radiator heat. Choose “cool” for a bright, unheated but frost-free room.

Choose outdoors only if the tree can stay outside through the seasons, with shelter from strong wind and protection for the pot during hard frost. Provide shade during extreme summer heat.

A few things worth knowing

Can any bonsai live indoors?

No. Species matters. Tropical Ficus suits a warm, bright room; junipers need to live outdoors. A tree’s appearance alone cannot tell you where it belongs.

What does “bright” mean?

For indoor bonsai, think close to a window with strong natural daylight, not across the room on a shelf. Keep trees away from radiator heat and cold draughts.

What if it’s a present?

Choose for the recipient’s growing conditions first. If you don’t know where the tree will live, ask them or get in touch with us before choosing.

Will my tree look exactly like the photograph?

Most of our regular ranges use representative photographs. Each tree’s trunk, branching and foliage varies naturally. Check the individual listing for actual-tree photographs and what is included.
