Introduction
Oriental Photinia offers attractive branching, autumn foliage colour and the possibility of seasonal blossom and ornamental berries. Its shaped outline offers a form to maintain and refine over time. It is supplied in an approximately 25cm pot.
About this bonsai
Often sold as Photinia villosa, this species is also known as Pourthiaea villosa. It sheds its leaves for winter, leaving its branch structure on display. Flowers and fruit depend on the season and growing conditions.

Position & light
Keep outdoors in a bright position with sun or light partial shade. Shelter from strong drying winds while maintaining good airflow.
Watering
Water thoroughly as the upper soil layer starts to dry and allow drainage. Keep the root ball evenly moist during active growth. A neutral to acidic growing medium is preferable to chalky conditions.
Feeding & pruning
Feed during active growth and prune selectively to develop the shape. Heavy trimming can reduce flowers and fruit. Assess spring repotting when root growth or poor drainage indicates a need.
Winter care
Allow natural leaf fall and winter dormancy. Protect the pot during prolonged hard freezes and continue checking moisture. Do not bring into a hot room to keep it in leaf.
