Large Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) Bonsai Tree | Shaped | In 40cm Pot
Representative image: You will receive a similar tree. Each bonsai is unique.
Introduction
Naturally small leaves and fine branching give Chinese Elm a wonderfully convincing miniature-tree appearance. Its shaped outline offers a form to maintain and refine over time. It is supplied in an approximately 40cm pot.
About this bonsai
Chinese Elm responds well to regular light pruning, making it a rewarding tree for learning how to develop a canopy. Its leaf cover changes with temperature and growing conditions, so seasonal leaf loss can be normal.

Position & light
Give plenty of natural light. Indoors, choose a bright window position away from radiators and fireplaces. Acclimatise gradually when moving outdoors, and avoid repeatedly switching between warm rooms and cold outdoor conditions.
Watering
Check the soil frequently and water thoroughly as the upper layer begins to dry. Let excess water drain away. Do not allow the root ball to dry hard or leave the pot standing in water.
Feeding & pruning
Use a suitable bonsai fertiliser during active growth, following the label. Trim extending shoots to maintain the outline. Assess repotting in spring according to root development and drainage, rather than automatically repotting every year.
Winter care
Trees grown cool may lose some or all of their leaves. Protect the pot from prolonged hard frost. Indoor trees still need strong natural light and should be kept clear of central heating.
What you'll receive
One Chinese Elm bonsai in the pot described above. A drip tray is not included unless specifically included in a purchased option. Photographs are representative; trunks, branches, foliage and overall shape vary naturally between trees.
Please note:
Trees
- Image shown is of the actual tree you will receive unless stated otherwise in the actual product's description
- The height given is from the base of the pot to the top of the tree.
- The tree received may be slightly different from the picture. Whilst we try to keep the photos of our trees as up to date as possible, these are live plants and, as such, will continue to grow and change slightly in between the times we take the photos.
Pots
- Some of our Bonsai pots are bought in bulk and unfortunately it's impossible to photograph each single item so the photograph used is taken from one random item of each collection we sell. In 99% of cases this means that any differences won't even be noticeable, however, if you have seen a particular image of a pot that has a certain streak of paint in a certain place, bear in mind that the pot you receive may not be 100% identical to this.
